“I EMPOWER MY CLIENTS FROM WHEREVER THEY ARE TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP”

-Janice Milan Moore, M.S, CRC

I chose this image to represent my philosophy and vision of  Awareness Career Counseling.   I happened upon this log when I was walking through the woods after the first snow of the season and it caught my attention when I noticed the the natural beauty of light shining through a dark space.  I immediately felt this was the image I had been searching for to represent my approach to career counseling and overcoming barriers.

What can be seen first is the external shape of what’s left from a tree trunk misshapen, weathered and recreated over time into an object of awe and wonder.  Many clients I work with are often in a state of flux trying to move forward or take the next step into the unknown.  As individuals go through the career counseling process they are encouraged to hear and to recognize their own voices and what are their interests and desired outcomes both personally  and professionally.  My goal as a career counselor/ coach is to act as a compass and to empower clients as they reach out from wherever they are to take the next step towards achieving their goals.  Clients typically feel a sense of achievement and success as they take small attainable steps towards achieving their goals.

Career exploration focuses on merging internal and external awareness.  Internal awareness focuses on what you already have within you. What are my strengths and what are some of my worries with taking the next step?  While external awareness is attained through vocational exploration. What is my fit in terms of a career that utilizes my values and skills? Are there certain programs and/or skills that I can access in order to develop a new career?

Part of the experience is utilizing visual imagery and self assessment inventories in order for individuals to see where they are in terms of their readiness to make changes. Individual readiness will influence outcomes.

My process allows for a shift of consciousness to encourage processing and developing independence as part of the career exploration process. Obstacles to making changes are also explored with clients. Strategies are identified to assist in overcoming these identified blockades.

Awareness  counseling may focus on:

What are the obstacles that are blocking me from succeeding in my career?

Strategies are identified to assist in overcoming these identified blockades by breaking things down into manageable steps. Sometimes we need help identifying where our internal qualities match our external qualities.  My goal is to help you reconcile the two for a holistic approach to finding the right job for you.
